Microneedling

Restore Collagen and Elastin with the Eclipse MicroPen® in NY

Microneedling at NY’s Hudson Dermatology leverages the body’s natural desire to heal itself. Trained medical professionals apply a microneedling pen to the treatment area, delivering tiny needle pricks that create microscopic channels in the skin. The skin responds to this slightly controlled damage by boosting collagen and elastin production in the area, ultimately healing and improving the overall quality.

The skincare team at Hudson Dermatology uses the Eclipse MicroPen®, an innovative and automated microneedling tool that offers a high-speed motor and adjustable depth settings. This allows us to tailor the experience and treatment to your exact needs. After a single microneedling session, the treated skin will begin to produce additional collagen and elastin, with visible improvements in four to six weeks.

What Can I Expect from a Microneedling Session?

Every treatment plan at Hudson Dermatology is tailored to the patient’s specific needs, so no two microneedling sessions are going to be exactly alike. Most patients should expect to spend one to two hours at the Hudson Dermatology facilities, though the exact treatment time depends on the area being addressed.

Each session begins with the application of numbing cream to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. Your provider will then apply the Eclipse MicroPen® to the treatment area. In the hands of a professional with the necessary experience and knowledge and the correct tools, a microneedling treatment is a comfortable experience, so it is important that patients choose a qualified facility and microneedling practitioner.

A simple “microneedling near me” Google search may turn up numerous treatment options, but not all facilities are equally equipped to deliver safe, quality care. Each provider on the team at New York’s Hudson Dermatology has years of experience treating skin with a range of options—including microneedling—and will be happy to answer any questions you might have about microneedling cost, the efficacy and safety of rollers for at-home use, and more. At Hudson Dermatology, microneedling treatments are performed in a comfortable, safe, sterile environment so patients can feel confident knowing they’re getting the best possible care.

Microneedling and Platelet-Rich Plasma

The results of microneedling treatments can be enhanced with the application of platelet-rich plasma, also known as PRP. A patient’s blood is drawn, then spun in a centrifuge to separate out the components called platelet, which are known especially for their healing properties. When concentrated and used as part of a collagen-induction treatment—especially where the surface has recently been perforated with numerous microchannels that facilitate absorption—these platelets can further improve the skin’s own regenerative power.

What Happens After Microneedling?

Following a treatment session, patients can resume most normal activities—although you should wait a few days before working out, as sweat can prolong the healing process. Patients may experience mild side effects including redness, swelling, and itchiness at the treatment site. These effects typically subside one to three days after treatment. The healthy, glowing skin characteristic of increased collagen and elastin production should be noticeable four to six weeks after your session.

Most patients benefit from multiple treatments scheduled several weeks apart to achieve optimal results. The team at Hudson Dermatology will work with you to develop a unique treatment plan that addresses your skin’s health and personal goals.

What Problems Does Microneedling Treat?

A microneedling session can be used to address a broad range of skin concerns. Just as collagen and elastin help heal skin damaged by a number of issues, microneedling has many uses. Treatment may help patients concerned with acne scars and other marks, alopecia (hair loss), fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation (dark spots or patches of skin), large pores, reduced skin elasticity, stretch marks, sun damage, and more.

Are There More Options for Skin Rejuvenation?

Another way to stimulate collagen production in the skin is by removing the outermost layer. This clears away debris and dead cells, as well as prompts healing in specialized cells. Patients may consider a chemical peel or microdermabrasion for this effect. Certain cosmetic injectables, like Radiesse®, can also be used to trigger renewed collagen manufacturing in the skin.
