Laser treatment can
get rid of unattractive veins and spots

What is a laser?

Lasers offer fast, safe treatment of many types of vascular lesions. These include:

How does it work?

The laser specifically targets the red color of the blood vessels, below the skin surface. The top layer of the skin is protected by a cooling spray during treatment. This is known as a “non-ablative” approach to the destruction of unwanted superficial blood vessels.

What will I feel?

The treatments produce a mild to moderate stinging sensation — like the snapping of a rubber band — which is well tolerated by most patients. No anesthesia is required for the procedure, which takes about 15 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

Facial blood vessels can be treated by two approaches. One uses a more intense setting of the light beam to eliminate the vessels, which may result in bruising. Only one to two treatments of the desired areas are required with this more intense treatment.

An alternate method uses a lower setting of the laser, which results in less swelling and no bruising. This method requires two to four treatments about one month apart to eradicate the blood vessels.

How soon will I see results?

Although you may see improvement during the first week after the treatment, the process is gradual and it may take months to fully appreciate the results.

Are there side-effects?

Redness and swelling of the treated area may last up to two days. Bruising occasionally occurs and can last for up to one week. Rare complications of laser include pigment changes or scarring. These are more common in dark-skin-toned patients, but may also result from sun exposure without protection after laser treatment.
